First Time in class
As a new instructor I believe it is important to set the expectation and standards high the first day. This helps to lift the classes efforts in making those gaols set by the instuctor.
First impressions are only made once, thus if we set our standards high we then can expect the same from our students. We want our students to be the best that they can be in class and in the real world. It all starts with us....
very important. course standards should reflect the information students need to achieve success.
I agree with you Daniel. As a new instructor myself, I know the students are "sizing me up" and comparing me to the other instructors in their program. By immediately setting the expectations/standards on the first day, they know I am aware of and asking for the same level of achievement as the other instructors.
Susan,
So true. It is only fair to our students that we set the standards of the course at the same level as that required by the field. Then when they have completed the course they will know they have met or exceeded field requirements. This will help them with early career success.

I agree. If we lower standards, we will create students or future professionals who are not prepared for the rigors of the professional world.
Daniel,
Very important. Course standards need to reflect the standards of the field in which the students are preparing to enter. By doing so it is easier for us instructors to explain to our students why the standards are set where they are.
