My favorite attention getter is stories of passed experiences, it's always fun to tell a story and your audience has to use their imagination to run a movie about what your talking about in their heads.
Telling a really interesting story that is relavant to the course or course material. It shows my humanity and that I too am human.
I never thought to try this, but I really like the idea and it would be great to put a quote on the board for each day, or at least the start of a new week.
