Meeting Class for the First TIme

I have found by making a strong introduction about yourself and what the class objectives are and what the student needs to do to meet the objectives makes a strong impression.

Allow the student to clarify in class, or private if necessary his/her expectations.

Jennifer,
Good idea. Thanks for sharing this strategy with us.

I do the same thing, I also make a "map" of where people are sitting so I can learn their names quickly

Dahlia,
I use this approach as well because it helps to get everyone settled in and feeling comfortable. Plus, a good laugh really helps to relax nerves.

Meeting a class for the first time can be challenging but what I have found to be relaxing to the students and myself is make a fun introduction . To make them feel comfortable I share a funny encounter with the career field. After we have broke some ice then I move onto the syllabus and class objectives.

Daniel,
Good way to lay out how the course is going to operate and the value the students will get from the content in their career development.
