Meeting the Class for the First Time
This is the first impression where the rubber meets the road so to speak and the student makes a determination if they will be able to learn anything in this class.
I totally agree with you on this. Meeting your students for the very first time or any individual is always a nervous situation for me. I find that if I can make the student more comfortable with me instead of me with them at first I become more confident and relaxed and that causes me to connect better and quicker.
David,
This is a comfortable and easy way to start off a new course. Since you start so many of them in a year I know you have developed a way to get the students settled in and feeling a part of the class right from the beginning.

I get a new class of students every 3 weeks. I am always a little nervous, but being professional, courteous and little humorous always helps me and the students.
I like to set the standard of what is expected. This gives the student an idea of what they have to do
William,
Like your approach to engaging your students in the learning process because this is how you make a difference in their career development and development of their total person.

Your exactly right, where the rubber meets the road. The students determination of us will be in direct correlation of how we reflect the 3 m's. I liked the video and will most certainly use it as a rule, did I connect with the head (did I get my knowledge to them), can they see my heart (that I am passionate about what I'm teaching), and did they feel it in their gut (that I was intentional and honest about the things I had said).
Charles,
You got that right. This is the foundation upon which the rest of the course will be built.
