Lectern in small class?
I find a lecturing from a lectern in a class of less than 8 very impersonal and always try and integrate into the class and bring the class closer together.
I have found moving around the class also keeps cellphone use lower as well.

I am a mover as well. I cannot stand in the same place but move around the classroom. This keeps the students engaged because they follow me with their eyes and by looking up they get the opportunity to reset their brains and this helps them to stay on task.

I have to move about the class when I teach. I find that helps me think better and makes me be more aware of who is listening and who is zoning out. I do place my notes at the lectern/desk for reference but I walk to and from it frequently.
