Computer Based Learning - First Experience

I have always been biased against Computer based learning inasmuch us I do not see my teacher in person and I communicate through an "impersonal" computer. After this class , I realized that I was wrong since I actually enjoyed and learned from this experience. As pointed out , it enhances retention , learner can pace self through the instruction repeating or skimming as needed.Thank you.

Thanks for the input Carlton

It did not occur to me that the hands on people might not be suited for that type of learning

I'll keep this in mind since a lot of teaching is directed to distance or online type of education even with traditional 4 year research institutions

watch out for copy write infringement?

I am all for online courses , specially if you teach in a trade school , alot of material on the web base serves as a foundation to that particular course and it gives an idea of what is coming ahead .

We have been doing CBT for years with mixed results a far as retention of informaation goes. For those who learn through the written word, they are great. Visual learners do so so. Hands on people get bored.

Thanks Gary.
I have a passion for teaching and I shall definitely recommend online courses for our professional development.

Hi Joel,
Great to hear about the online course. Glad to be a part of your professional development. Keep enjoying your teaching and students.
Gary

Computer based learning that I use allows the students to go over the material as many times as they need, not stop a lecture and ask questions that may be more basic than the subject matter at hand. Usually the lectures are the advanced rolling together of the basic ideas learned in the computer based area, and once the computer courses are completed the student is ready for a faster paced in class or lab experience. The time spent trying to get all the information out in a lecture that is now done on a computer would be very dry and boring for those faster paced students and would lead to not paying attention to the actual class when that information is handed out.
