Keeping Them Interested
You need to plan your lesson around the classes ability to pay attention. You can't please everybody but you need to keep everyone involved.
Right. It is very important to get the students involved in the classes. I see it serves better when I ask them to read certain section of the text book and then tell the rest of the class what he/she understood.
I let them take a part in the teaching process as I believe that will also enforce their confidence and their ability to speak out their ideas.
Hi Ronald,
That is correct. With limited attention spans students need to have variety within the class structure. This means that even while delivering a lecture you can pause, hold up an object, illustrate a point with a story, etc. and hold the attention of the students. The sign of a good instructor is the ability to change pace and keep the brains of all the students engaged in the learning process. Keep up the good work.

Even with an entire classroom time of lecture, with the correct tactics you should be able to keep 99.9 percent of the students interested. That is the challenge of being a good teacher and mentor. This is the rezasond why we take these couses and do self improvement practicing, no?

Usually I capitalize on what I know they are going to have to do with the knowledge by way of application and then ask if they have ever encountered a common problem trying to apply the knowledge. That tends to really capture their attention!
I agree, it is difficult to please everyone but you do your best to keep as many as you can focused and interested!
