Instructing Course Material

Planning and experience are some of the pieces which fit together to create a successful instructional session. By varying the delivery of the course materials and the way in which the students are to learn and acquire new knowledge and skills, promotes a greater mastery by the students.

You hit the nail on the head! If a student doesn't understand a particular concept and you know your field inside out, you can explain things from different angles to help them gain that understanding.

Hello Robert,

I totally agree with you Planning is the key. Like you said understanding the class and what is the best way of instruction for this class and what will bring intrest of the students in this subject is equally important.

Hi Patrick,
Good point about practice and preparation. By doing both of these things well you will reduce much frustration on your part as you will be ready to teach and respond to any questions that are raised.

Experience with past instruction that you obtained mixed with industry experience are key to success. Lets not forget practice and preparation are #1 tips as well.

I am a new Instructor and will need to use my experience heavely to assist me in my material. Great inputs. Thank You.

I also agree. Experience can make a huge difference particularly when you are teaching subjects that dont always follow just one set of rules. The words "always" and "never" seldom apply to the subjects i teach, so when answering questions and students' own scenarios i often have many possible answers for the same question.

I also agree, the more experience you have in the field the easier it is to explain things to students. The more knowledge you have about a question the easier it is to get the students to understand.

I concur. I have found in the courses I teach, the experience is what drives the message home for the student. For example, in the lab, tell them to do a specific task and then tell them the outcome before they do it, they verify the experience. Many times these activities spawn questions that help take the student to the next level with greater interest.

I couldn't agree more experience is one of the elements that all the planning can't forgive . If you have lived the experience you can plan how to present the material to give the student a direction to follow. But without the the experience planning can be an empty & frustratingpresentation.
