Content and Application
I have a unique teaching experience. I teach business management and I also do site visits to my student's place of employment. These site visits are an integral part of the teaching experience. I am lucky enough to deliver content and I am able to follow up on the applications. It allows me to get immediate feedback. I can go over lecture material that was covered in class with practical application and it allows me to refocus my content in order to get better outcomes. I truly have the best of both worlds. If I cover a subject but in real work setting the students are not understanding what I am saying I can go over how I delivered it and readdress my style.
Congratulations it does sound exciting to be able to tie real life examples and experiences to your content, lectures, demonstrations.
Some of the classes we teach the students just do not see its application in their field. The instructors have to work twice as hard to make sure students do understood the revelance and benefit to their field. On a day that does not go well the content can get delivered but not its application. Too many of those days and the students leave saying they didn't learn anything.
Hi Deb,
What a great teaching position you have. You are right about having the best of both worlds. You can bring application and relevancy back to the classroom as a result of being out in the work world.
