Managing students

I've found that students are now so accustomed to multitasking, that it is sometimes difficult to find the right pace to keep them stimulated.

I agree with each of the comments. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Like the lesson stated, 10-15 minute mini-lessons are ideal. You gotta keep the students interested and engaged. Students are used to multi-tasking and living in a lightning quick digitial world. We must adhere to that mentality if we want to keep their attention.

I find that by tailoring my approach to each individual student I am able to work at different paces to ensure that students are able to retain to information and remain engaged. Humor and humility are great tools to employ regardless of pace and spending additional time with students that require it will be a tremendous asst to their learning.

Sheri,

I agree that students today tend to naturally multitask in their everyday life: listen to music, while playing a game, and texting their friends.

As such it can be harder to get them to focus on one thing at a time.

Hi Sheri,
You are correct about this challenge of stimulating students and keeping them engaged. I have found that they still like the mentoring approach where they see that you care about their success and will provide instructional support as needed.
