How do you choose which material to focus on when you feel certain material is more important that other material when in reality it is all important because the material is inter-connected?

Hi Michael,
Good question but tough to answer. I base my course selection on what is the "common knowledge base" for the course. That is when a student finishes a course like mine what is the expected knowledge base for that course? I also look at the requirements of my college. After that it is a selection process on my part. I know I have to leave some things out though I try to peak my students' interest in those topics in case they might want to explore them in the future. It is not easy but it is necessary if I am going to create a well organized and focused course.
