Learning styles
I was thinking about coming up with a survey to give to the students on the first day of class to get a feel for their learning styles.
Are there any suggestions on how to come up with this?
I was thinking the same thing. I was also wondering how time consuming it would be and would i have enough time to incorporate this on the first day.
I actually have a handout that I will be giving my new students next quarter.I am looking forward to seeing the different learning styles of my new students and finding out different ways of teaching.
I've also found that I can usually determine learning styles based on how students respond to certain course requirements and materials. For example, those who are more auditory learners tend to get very restless when it comes to reading assignments, but are very alert and participatory in class. It's good to mix up the approaches to teaching, but I feel it's also important to be intuitive to a certain degree when it comes to your students.
Hi Michelle,
You can ask them a series of questions that involve the different learning preferences. For example, in your spare time do you like to read a novel, play sports, play electronic games, talk with friends, watch TV, etc. The answers to these questions will help you to see how your students group themselves up as learners that are reading, visual, auditory, or tactile learners. Then you can plan your instructional delivery from there.
