visual Aide

I do not want my class too boring. I believe we should use nice visual aides to comprehend course material for students. However, I do not know what kind of visual aides except power points we should use in the classroom. Do you have any idea?

Hi Zachary,
And I call your lecture a very good one! This is a great way to demonstrate your point while keeping the students engaged. Keep up the good work. I know your students are gaining much knowledge from the examples you are sharing with them.

I do a lecture in which I demonstrate how x-ray projection can be most accurate. In this lecture I turn off all the lights and use an object and a flashlight to help the students visually see what is going on with the x-rays(which are invisible). I find the demonstration really makes the students comprehend what is actually happening when an x-ray is being taken. I also feel that when the lights go out, I have undivided attention to make my point. I call it my "shock and awe" lecture.

Learning sutures is one of the most boring lectures I have. It is boring because even though I have plenty of suture, it is hard to tell students the differents ways we will use the suture, and we certainly can't demonstrate, so I bring in the rep. who has an awesome presentation and he brings much more than I can offer as far as demonstrating.

I have several visual aids and pass arounds. Find real world things that relate to your class and have them on hand for examples. You can even have exampes of things that go wrong in the field to show what to look for. I have used old contacts and friends to round some of these things up.

Hi Masami,
Depending on the course you teach you could bring in samples from the field. For example if it is a medical field you could bring in instruments to hold up and demonstrate their uses to students. You could have the students do mini-presentations over certain topics. These kinds of activities will help to break up the time in the class and the students will be more engaged.
