Mini Lectures
it is very important to control your students interest during the lecture. it helps for students to focus.
Using mini lectures for detailed technology classes and then having the students doing examples helps it to sink in.
Akita,
Good way to keep the students engaged and the class progressing as needed. Variety of delivery encourages retention of content by students.

I agree, I use question breaks and Mini lecture rotations it keeps the class moving and I know just how much information is being absorbed.
David,
I don't think they will lose focus. I think they will welcome the change of pace and then be ready for the next mini-lecture in the sequence.
Gary
Excellent information!
Do you think showing real word samples (ala video or animation) would help during the "reset" or would this be more of a distraction and cause them to lose focus?
David
David,
The human brain needs variety but craves structure and order. So with mini-lectures of 15-20 minutes and then a change of pace to discussion, questions or learning group work the students can "reset" their cognitive processing. Then more content through the mini-lecture and the process continues. You don't have to stop the class with the process you are just letting them adjust a bit in their minds, step back from concentrating, and then refocus.
If you have any additional questions I will be glad to expand this discussion further.
Gary
Yes indeed, please elaborate, I look forward to learning more about various possibilities and examples of mini lectures.
