Many of my students have different learning styles. It is important to teach them all. If you simply focus on one teaching style you will probably have many student struggle with the material. It never hurts to try to make a student learn in a new/different way. It actually gets the class more excited about what they are learning.

Hi Justin,
Good point about different learning preferences and something we need to always keep in mind as we prepare our instruction. Plus, the variety as we know helps to keep our students engaged.
Gary

Hi Nicole,
Your last sentence really reflects on the fun part of teaching. We get to use many different learning strategies to reach our students and that helps to keep us engaged as well as the students.
Gary

Hi Diana,
Good point. The diversity of our students and their learning preferences contribute to enhanced learning opportunities for everyone with proper instructional planning. This planning also enables us to use our creativity in teaching.
Gary

This is so true, one of my sons is a kinetic learner, while the other son is an auditory learner. Finding the way that a student learns to me, is just as important as the subject material being taught.

Not all students learn the same, it's good to vary teaching methods so that all students can understand.

Besides that, variety is the spice of life...It helps to make things exciting for the students.

First of all we must remember we have a mix of preferred learning styles in just about every class so we need to appeal to these for each student. We also need to keep students interested and engaged is what is going on so mixing up the methods helps with this.

Hi Crystal,
Good analysis of why having different instructional deliveries are so important. With your approach you are touching on the different learning modes which will in turn engage all of the students at one time or another.
Gary

Various techniques allow instructor to motivate different types of students.

Everyone is different; everyone learns slightly different as well. Providing the instruction in multiple avenues allows a greater chance for the entire class to follow, learn, and retain the information. The content itself may require multiple teaching examples because of the complexity. Hearing it, seeing it, and applying it combine to faciliate higher learning.

I love this topic! Not every student learns in the same way. Some do well in groups with alot of interaction, while others are more solitary learners. Some take great nots, others need to see a visual or graphic organizer to get the idea. Varying instructional methods allows the instructor a greater opportunity to meet the needs of all learners!

Hi Jim,
What are some ways you keep your students engaged in the subject matter that you can share with other instructors.
Thanks for you input on this.
Gary

To keep students engaged and to appeal to a variety of learning styles.

Its important to deliver varied instructional delivery methods to keep students focused and to reach all types of learning for each student. I find repetition with jeopardy makes them think because the questions are asked more than one way.

knowledge is the power, give them the best information best of your ability

I find that is very important to offer different instructional delivery methods is to add to the student's learning. It also breaks up the class into sections to make it easier for the student's to grasp the material. But if you think about it not only does it help the students but it helps you as the instructor as well to not to be so boring or predictable.

Hi Glenn,
Well said. The more "ah ha" moments we can have both as students and instructors the richer our lives are going to be. So we need to work hard in our instructional planning to provide "ah ha" opportunities.
Gary

It is important because of all different styles of learnera. Additionally our goal is to keep the student engaged by changing flow of information breaks the monotony that could lead to boredoom and the attachment of the student. Following this wil also challenge you to use all the tools in your teaching tool box. From the lecture it stated we learn when we learn something about ourselves. Ah ha moments is a good things and sometimes we need to lead ourselves there.

Not all students will completely understand one type of instruction. Altering a particular style of instruction based on individual students will ensure that all students grasp the concept being emphasized.

Students learn in different ways. I deliver a message to my students and look for reactions. I show them with props, or actual components what I am talking about. I find the visual components are recieved better in most cases, but I go over the message again so each student can relate to the subject matter. In my field each student is required to test to recieve a license, so I give quizes that help them prepare.
