Teaching OT
I teach keyboarding and typing also intro to microsoft word 2007.This is not a very interesting topic and can become boring quickly. Any one have any suggestions on activities that make class more upbeat?
John,
Thanks for these suggestions. I think they are great ways to expand the expertise of the students.

A possibility might be to temporarily abandon the text and give them models of business letters, resumes, etc. Then direct them to construct a resume for themselves, or write a letter of complaint to a store regarding a faulty product or service, or create another professional document -- not using a Microsoft wizard or template, but simply using the examples given as models. If students can see you directing them to a project with established personal importance, it might fire up their interest.
Charlena,
I have never taught anything like this but I do teach a required foundational course which the students have to pass in order to get their certificates. Many of them don't see value to what I am teaching so I bring in different games and competitions for them. They get really involved in the games and forget to some extent that they are actually learning and having fun doing it. Don't know if something like this will work for your content or not. Just a suggestion.
