discussion
A combination of powerpoints, white board and discussions are a great way to pull the information together. It gives everyone a chance to actively participate in learning the material.
Cathryn,
I use learning groups of 3-4 students each. I have each person in the group contribute a question. The groups talk about these questions among themselves for a few minutes. Then I bring the entire class back together and each person asks the question they asked in small group. The value of this is that my shy students will have practiced asking their question in small group so they are more confident about asking it with the entire class listening and my talkers are reined in because they only get to ask one question themselves.

How do you get everyone in the class to participate in the discussions and not just the talkative few? I feel like the quieter students might participate more if others didn't jump in immediately, but I don't want to discourage the ones who do actively participate.
