Lack of progress with practical skills
I have a couple of students that are having alot of problems developing practical, hands-on skills that I consider vital for being successful in this field. I have discussed it with them, demonstrated on models and recommended that they get more hands-on experience in the field.
What is the best way to help someone who isn't very manually dextrous develop good clinical skills?
Nora,
Practice and more practice is where I would start. As we know some people are more inclined when it comes to tactile abilities. Your students that have tactile challenges can be better through practice but for some it may be physically impossible for them to perform such tasks. For these students I would talk with them and Career Services about exploring alternative career choices if they are not going to be able to develop their skills sets to the level that is required by the field.
Another strategy I would use is to find some games that require dexterity and have them practice these games as a form of homework.
