Delivering course content

Students learn in all types of ways. The best way to instruct is to vary your styles. Being prepared is most important for the instructor.

Glennda,
This is always a challenge for us instructors. Finding the balance of keeping students engaged while covering the required material within the time limit is tough and requires ongoing evaluation of how effective the instruction really is.

I agree with this strategy, and I try to incorporate this into my longer classes as well. Sometimes with shorter classes, there doesn't seem to be enough time to cover content and have too many activities.

Heather,
Good strategy to follow. By doing so you are keeping your students engaged and focused for the duration of the class. With longer class sessions it is easy as you know to lose them. So we need to bring up the energy level and get them moving around to discuss, role play, problem solve, etc.. This is how we will keep them learning for the duration of our class sessions.

I agree. It's so different with every class and every student. My class periods are long so I try to hit at least three or four different types of learning in my lesson. Lecture, then discussion, then demonstration, group work, etc. Mixing it up helps everyone.
