Keeping students interested in class

Is it a bad idea to play games and come up with certain phrases to help students learn the material?

Jacqueline,
I am a big fan of using games. Our version of Family Feud and Jeopardy are the favorites.

I think playing games is great. It gives the students an opportunity the understand the material better. This style kept the students interested in the class and yearning for more. I tried it and the students thought it was AWESOME!!

Betty,
I use games a lot in my classes as well. They really help when it comes to review time and getting ready for quizzes.

John,
My students love games for learning. I use Family Feud and Jeopardy formats with the students getting very competitive and engaged. They really perk up when we get ready to go into game format.

I don't think so - games seem to be very effective in the learning process for memory retention.

Games seem to be less effective with adult learners possibly because they feel it is childish and doesn't fit the pattern/level of learning they would like to picture themselves as being at.

Jeanette,
Not at all. I use games like Family Feud and Jeopardy to review for quizzes. My students really like playing these games and the results are great as well. They really remember the content as a result of these games. I use phrases all the time, put up flip charts of things we have covered and give students case studies. The point is to keep the class moving forward and the engaged.
