Over load
There are times we have to go over a full chapter in one 6 hour class. how do you keep them focused and not feel to over loaded?
Steven,
I am sure this also increases the interest factor for students since they didn't expect you to be able to connect a particular topic to the subject matter. They start to see how you are going to do it with other topics and thus stay engaged.

I like to find ways to tie seemingly unrelated topics into the core subject material. This helps to break up the monotony of a single, long lecture.
Teresa,
Learners like change of pace and variety in their instructional delivery. You are providing both with this approach and I am sure the results are engaged students throughout each class session.

I would stop every so often and give reviews. Instead of standing up giving an entire lecture, I would create so sort of hands on activities to corelate with the lecture. Grasping and maintaining your students attention is very important.
Kat,
This is a tough situation because you have to cover the content in a short time frame. I would use mini-case studies to get the students talking about the material after presenting a major topic or concept. These mini-sessions don't have to last long but they will get the students to thinking and discussing among themselves and that helps to keep them engaged.
