Delivering Course Content

I like to use powerpoints and visual. I also like to do hands-on demonstrations to deliver the course content.

Abbie,
This is a good way to keep your students engaged and focus on the course content. In addition, the retention of the content is greatly increased.

I have only been teaching for less than a year and I also prefer doing more hands on activities than reading out of the book.

Tara,
Good strategy to follow because you are reinforcing the learning of your students in a variety of ways. The more variety the greater the engagement is going to be.

Something I do is take photo's of my demonstration. So they see me do it, then it is on the smart board for them to try. So they still have a visual. I also have a power point loaded on to their course portal of the demonstration too. It really helps.

Silena,
The wider the use of media and activities the better. This way you are asking your students to use more of their senses to learn the required content and that really helps them to stay engaged.

Silena,
I like to use Powerpoint with my lectures too. They are lifesavers. The powerpoint slides highlight the key points from the chapters in the textbook that I feel are important. Also, our department incorporates supplemental material, audiovisual aids, and demonstrations on our manikins for our hands-on activities in our dental lab a lot. This definitely enhances learning for our dental assisting students in the course.
