problem solving

how to make it knowledgeable

Problem solving allows the students to be creative with the class material and provides me with information about my presentation.

Martin,
I think there is due to some of the approaches being taken in the science field. We are seeing more "design thinking" where people from different field contribute input to solve a problem. This is more holistic in that the problem is worked through based upon different approaches and strategies.

In graphic design, the Modernist theorists defined the design process as "problem solving" in an attempt to make design more scientific in nature. This attitude still prevails, but was questioned at one point by the Postmodernists, who resented the idea of issues of design being problems and felt that a fine art aesthetic was more important in visual communication. I wonder if there's a place in science for a more holistic approach.

Leslie,
I use a lot of case studies for this reason. I want the students to develop reflective thinking skills so they can become better problem solvers. In addition, students really like working through case studies since they give them an idea what it is going to be like when they are in the work place.

Problem solving skills are essential in my field of study. Often times when trying to engage my students this is one of the only methods that seemed to get them involved in class discussions etc. It's very quickly becoming my favorite tool to use while teaching.

ArRecozell,
Not sure what this comment means. Can you expand on it please?
