Lesson plans

Lesson plans help keep you focused on how to prepare for each class session including the content and materials needed for the students.

Scott,
You are right about the impact lesson plans can have on the success of students in the classroom. They do assist in the learning journey and help to keep everyone on the same page and moving forward. Also, they are great to fall back on in cases where the material you have prepared is covered and you have more time in the class. You can look at the lesson plan and quickly see how to move to another topic without any downtown for the students.

I view lesson plans as road maps to success in the classroom. Although they act as a guide of where I would like to begin each class and where I want to take the students, it is possible to deviate and take a detour along the way if an interesting side topic comes up. By having a lesson plan, it is easier to get back on topic after the detour when a guide is used because it provides me a reminder of what we need to cover next in the class. It is always important to use lesson plans to ensure that all of the content needed in the class is covered.
