learning styles

Do you see anything wrong with asking the students first day of class which way they perfer to learn ? while lecturing I use an abundance of pass arounds so not only do they hear what it is but they see what it is.

Hi Karen - you have certainly got this down! My guess- You've been teaching for a while? (-;
Best wishes -Susan

The problem with asking the students is that most of them do not know. I normally can tell by day 3 of the class what each students is.

The auditory students normally have great lecture notes. The readers always have the homework done. The visual students are the ones asking the most questions during demo and the tactile learners ask more questions during the production part of class.

Asking students what their learning style is is something I'm going to start employing more of. While my school addresses all 4 styles, I would like to know which are more beneficial to particular students early in the course.

that is exactly what i do....ask them on their first day of class. i have had overwhelming success just by asking that simple question.
