Kinesthetic learners
I use a variety of learning techniques in my class, this one would help with a multitude of learners.
I pass around all kinds of auto parts for visual aids for my lectures before the students go out to lab.
I also like this style of learning because it is my style of learning. I also beleive that in the industry that I am in most of the students are kinesthetic learners also because they like working with their hands.
you are so right professor denfelding. one should involve the students as much as possible in the demo and lecture process. this stimulates their attention and pride to accomplish while learning.
You are so right Marcelo! Allowing your students to particpate in teaching so very much enhances their learning.
I realized that the Kinesthetic lerner needs or is more open to "multitasking" type of learning techniques. During my demo's I invite every day a different group of students to assit me in my demo/hands on lecture. I found it became very benefitial to them, because they are learning and following the process of the "know how" at the same time. That will develop more confidence, leading toward a better understanding and positive enviroment. This also makes the class more intereactive.
I agree with using Kinesthetic learners in demo's because it has multiple levels of pay off i.e. visual learners are accomodated; the kinesthetic learner is learning through the process of hands on preperation; and if I have the kinesthetic learner explains what they are doing while they are doing it, it will also serve the auditory learner. All of this is being accomplished at the same time and the students involved are gaining confidence which also has huge pay offs.

I also use students to demonstrate the "hands on" parts of my presentations. Durring their demonstration I provide verbal direction to both the group doing the task and the rest of the class. I fing that by doing this I can cover many of the learning styles and the students seem to do much better.
I use these types of students during the demonstration areas of my lecture. these types are great for doing the hands on demo's. while some would learn by watching first.
With this type of learner, I am always on the lookout for a new type of "pass around" I call them, things like a cut out section of a hood, showing how you pop the washer nozzle out from the bottom, door hinges to clearly illustrate what way the hinge might move, and a whole host of fasteners in marked containers, so these students have something to touch, and ask questions about.
