addressing multiple styles

I seem to get good results if i read the power point slide, then draw a pictoral representation on the board and follow it up with a hands on activity. Whether I do a demo or the students are performing hands on seems to get about the same results.

Hi Carlos- you are definitely covering all bases except for the visual, although the discipline that you teach probably has more kinesthetic and auditory learners. Still it can be a help to give them some sort of handouts that they can use as study guides. I would recommend something like powerpoint slides printouts that can be visually interesting versus just pages of text - blah!! Keep up the great teaching!

I teach an Audio and Sound class. I don't use Power Point but I do use a lot of examples. I bring microphones, cables and sound equipment to the class and I demonstrate in front of them how everything is done. Then I let them practice with a lab. So I break down my classes in 3 parts: Lecture, then Demonstration and then Practice.
So far is working.

powerpoint with a demonstration of the task and a brief analagy of the task and reason for it always seems to be very affective.

I summerize the power point rather than read it, but on occassion i will appoint a student to read the slide then explain what was read. i also attempt to draw pictures to simplfly. it is always helpful to go to the lab to do a visual of the subject.

Hi Jeff - Yes I work at a two year technical college.

This approach is simular to what we do at our School. Are you at a career school?

Hi Donald- You are teaching to all the learning styles - no wonder you get great results! Keep up the good work!
