Teaching students of their learning styles

I have found that students are often at a complete loss to describe their learning style- and many demonstrate improved grades after a conversation where we identify their dominant modality.

Now I start each semester off with a discussion of learning styles and suggestions for students.

We have implemented an exercise is our College Success class that allows students to identify their learning style and explore how to accommodate that style of learning. The students enjoy the activity and it helps to build their confidence as learners.

I have also found this to be the case. I don't think students really think about or even know how to access what type of learner they are and unfortunately a large number of instructors don't take the time to find out or help the students find out what kind of learners their students are.
