Evaluating Learning Styles

What is an effective way to evaluate student learning styles? How effective is the shotgun approach--presenting information in all styles?

There are a ton of quick inventories on-line that assess students' learning styles so a little research can go a long way. :-) I concur with the suggestion to incorporate as many modalities as possible to reach the majority of your students. With math, I try to verbally explain it, write out key terms, illustrate examples, and have them move around to practice problems. This SEEMS to get the curriculum delivered and engages the majority of my students.

Another way you could evaluate learning styles is by doing mini-modules of presentations presenting the material focusing on one learning style at a time and then quiz the students after each. I've used that sometimes when I am struggling reaching my students. I then find out that they learn in a comletely different way then the way I was teaching it.

Should be as effective as you can draw correct conclusions between your presentation styles and the students comprehension.
