Teaching Style
I teach computers with Medical assistance and Medical billing students. I found out through teaching experiance 50% of my students are Kinesthetic, 30% Visual and 20% written. So I used PowerPoint presentation with pictures. I also briefly minimize the PowerPoint presentation to demonstrate what I have been lecturing. The result was phenomenal.
Hi Deborah - I agree with you. I teach Medical Billing class and found that my students like PowerPoint presentation before completing the computer exercises in the textbook.
Hi Qadar_ Thanks for your post to the forum. You are using powerpoint very effectively -great work!
Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Deborah - Thanks for your post to the forum. I like to use powerpoint as a visual aid while I lecture, being careful to avoid reading the slides. (I once endured a 40 minute presentation delivered by a university President which he read verbatim from each slide - awful!)Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
I agree with you. I teach Medical Assisting and Medical Billing also. But I have found some students that do not like powerpoint at all. They prefer lecture only. Each student learns at a differently, and as educators we must recognize that no two students are the same.
HI Donna - Thanks for your post to the forum. Have you searched for any videos you might find on places like YouTube? Best wishes for continued sucess in your teaching career. Susan

Hi Debra- Thanks for your post to the forum. You are certainly doing a great job at using diverse deliveries! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Teaching in the medical field has given me the opportunity to use all of these methods. I use PPT with pictures and written words while lecturing to reach many students. In addition I show real-life videos with sound to reach even more. Also having students perform the task after demonstration reaches the kinesthetic learners. I feel as though I am covering all bases this way.
Hi Jeaneen- Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, teaching to diverse learning styles is a challenge at first, but you will find that your students will respond so well that it is absolutely worth it! Besides, you will be so much more inspired and engaged when you are not just showing the same PPTs over and over. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
It has been my experience that the accounting courses I teach are learned best by doing. Everyone nods their head yes when asked if they understand, but it really doesn't click until they are doing journal entries and the like with pencil and paper.
I truly never looked at various methods of teaching style. One of the courses I teach is so black and white that I use powerpoints to get the basic information across to my students. I can clearly see that I need to shuffle it up a bit and incorporate other methods. This will prove to be a challenge.
I agree students only absorb 20%- 30% by lecturing and reading. They absorb the other 70 - 805 by visual kinetic
Hi Michelle- Thanks for your post to the forum. Studednts really appreciate that we take the time and effort to adapt our teaching to their learning styles. They really do learn better and we are therefore more successful as well! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
I agree completely with what you said. Going through and analyzing students learning methods is very powerful when teaching. It gives you the ability to adopt your techinques to meet the student's needs and make them successful.
