figuring out your learning style
I taught a class called Student Success. It was largely focused on how to be a good student. In that class the students discovered their learning style and prepared an individual strategy plan tailored to their learning style. I have received feedback from students 2 years later from students that comment on how helpful it was for them to understand how they learn. I think every college/school should consider this type of assessment and learning strategy planning.

Hi Yvette- Thanks for your post to the forum. What is your learning style? How old is your son? How does he feel about the classical music? (-:
Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
I learned my style when I started college. I also learned my sons style of learning also. One day while my son and I were doing homework I turned on the radio to a hip-hop station and noticed my son and I were moving to the music not getting anything done. Then I had changed the channel to a classical station and we were able to absorb the information for our homework.
Hi Mary- Thanks for sharing the info about "Windows to Our Children". I will be checking it out next week! Best wishes- Susan
Another resource for discovering styles of learning and creative interventions is a book called, "Windows to Our Children". It can be adapted to meet adult needs.
Hi Diane- I really liked your ideas about how to introduce info on their learning styles to our students. Susan
Hi Sarah - After 30+ years in education, I cannot over emphasize how important teaching to the student's learning style is! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
I would love it if every school would test the students on their first day to see what style they are. I think it would benafit everyone in the long run.
I agree that this should be done, perhaps as part of orientation so the student starts out knowing what type of style will be "easy" for him/her to learn from and which types may be more challenging. The instructors could start out their courses by acknowledging that there are various types of learning and his/her commitment is to address all four styles throughout the quarter.
Hi Colleen - Thanks for your post to the forum. The Student Success class that you mention is wonderful! I agree - all schools should implement a course like this. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
