questions

I try very hard to ask questions that realy make the students think. I always like my questions to start a decusion as an answer, this makes more students get involed with the answer.

Hi Charlene- I have been teaching for many years but as you mention, I am also always looking for new ideas and techniques to improve. Best wishes - Susan

I have been fortunate that so far in my teaching career I have felt very comfortable with using questions in the classroom to engage students and promote learning. Again, I have been fortunate to have a large percentage of my classes easily respond to questions and easily participate in the discussions that follow. I am sure there will be a time when I encounter a class of students with a high percentage of shyness, reserved/introverted behavior. I find it useful to learn various techniques specific to questioning/engaging students through questions as I realize I can use these methods now in teaching my out-going classes. Also, there will come a time when I will have a larger group of students in class that will specifically need me to be trained/skilled in this form of communication in order for me to be able to engage them/draw them out.

Questionning is an aspect I have to continually work at. I don't like putting students on the spot in the classroom, so I have to really think about and plan my questions in order to spark discussion and learning. I find I spend a lot of time to structure strategic questions.

Hi Clifton - Welcome to ED 103! It may be more difficult to formulate thought provoking questions but as you point out it makes for some dynamic discussions.
