Questions are great learning tools
I love it when my class and have a good question and answer session. They can learn things other than what's in the book or a lecture. Real life experiences, other students experiences, and sometimes this will get my shy student to speak up if something we are discussing relates to them.
Hi James - I agree- Being surrounded by students obviously enjoying and particpating in the discussion is so rewarding! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
I agree. Even those times when the class may seem to wander from the planned goal can be redirected and made to be beneficial. Nothing is more rewarding than a lively discussion prompted by a good question/response session. I have found that even some reluctant students may dive in when a topic or question hits home.
My classes are at their best when students are asking questions of each other. I think they learn both by answering and asking questions, much more than just asking me about something.
Yes some of my classes become so loud that my fellow teaches close their doors; however this active learning; I know that everyone is involved.
Hi Gerard - Welcome to ED 103! I agree, asking questions that allow students to relate the theory being taught to their own experiences does certainly add to the learning process. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan
Questions are great learning tools and I really think that it is the only way to connect theory to "real life" experience. It reaafirms and confirms the validity of the knowledge.
