Questions with Research in Mind

I work within a technical school environment and find that as I ask questions to the students and then involve them in research to find or clarify the answer is very helpful. Problem solving is very much part of their educational experience and will be within their professional experience, therefore the ability to uncover answers through a varity of researching methods is very helpful

Hi Elise - LOL! I love that you have found a way to utilize the students' attachment to their social technology as a tool in your classroom!
Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I also use this techique. I take advantage of the students' ubiquitous Iphones, asking them to do on-the-spot research. It satisfies their quest for knowledge, their intense desire to stay "connected" and appeals to a variety of learning styles. They learn that there is more to connectivity than Facebook!

Hi Clare - Thank you for a very useful post to the forum! As educators our base inclination is to give information /answer questions, but, as you point out, we often better serve our students by helping them to problem solve on their own. Best wishes - Susan

Hello Clare!

I also teach technical courses and I like to combine research based questions with group projects. This way the can get some of the feeling of problem solving and critical thinking in a team format.
