Getting students involved in lecture

Get students invoved by introducing subjects that pertain to real life. Also apply real life experience

Hi Lyndi - Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, as you mention, students need to see the relevancy of what we are teaching them. Being able to provide "real-world" examples is important! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I find that students become very interested in life experiences. I have students ask me almost everyday for life examples.

I know what type of teaching I like and what helped me through my studies. So I like to apply that with my students

I agree this is extremely important to insure successful outcomes

They all feel very comfortable when it comesto their own. Cause this is an area that known to them not something new.

Hi Junior- this is active learning at it's best. your students are driving the discussion with their questions and getting the answers they need to build their knowledge. Best wishes- Susan

When I am discussing a certain medical condition, let say Diabetes Mellitus, I usually address the main topic in the lecture, but then I have the students ask me questions about certain aspect of the disease process, that does not make sense to them. It can be such things as kidney problems, eye problems, feet problems, and then I show them the links between each sysytem and increase glucose in the blood stream. It can become very involve, since the students are so inquisitive, and they really want to learn.
