student participation

I have found when i lead them in a direction i can get almost all my student to question me when i say something off the wall to get back on topic

Hi - Thanks for your post to the forum. Usually I check my discussion boards every few hours so that if I see soemthing off topic I can quickly counter to pull things back on track before too many other students have jumped on the run-a-way train! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Leading them in the direction you want can sometimes be tricky in an on-line course. I keep redirecting students who get off track and want to bring in off topic information. I had one person something totally off track and then 15 people responded with the same type of information. It took me all week to get them all back on the topic. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated--open to ideas!

What is NEC?

That's a good strategy sometimes when students are not focused and you could actually use this to redirect students. I've done this myself a few times! You get some startled looks, and then they seem to become more focused.

I have found that if i get a question on the NEC it gets the class back on track
