Questions

What would be the best way to get full participation in a group which only one person who is always asking the questions.

One way is to ask students to comment on the answers given by the one student. Another way would be to solicit feedback from other students by asking if their opinion/answer differs or if they could clarify certain parts of the student's answer.

I also have one or two students who are always prepared and willing to jump in and answer... In the past, I have thanked them for wanting to answer, but then asked another student or two what their response might be. I always go back to the eager students, not wanting to leave them out. I have also mixed up they types of questions I ask better than I used to and this has seemed to give everyone a chance to give their input.

Hi Sabrina- Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, asking for additional comments(agree/disagree) is a great questioning strategy.
Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Other students can build on to the answer the one student is presenting you with. Agrees/disagrees can lead to great group discussions.

Hi Daniel - This is where I start to direct questions to the rest of the class, or I may even say "John has come up with some good questions, what other questions do you all have?"
