Questioning as a Technique
I very much enjoy questioning by students. To me this opens up broader discussions related to course content and allows for the input of life experience to the discussion. Students relate to these experiences that are brought up and retain information.
yes, that works for me too
I use questioning to find out how much students have retained from prior courses. I then know if I have to review before proceeding with the new course material.
Hi Francesca- Thanks for your post to the forum. Using questions to get students thinking about concepts you are about to introduce is a great idea - they become curious which makes them pay attention. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Bill - Thanks for your post to the forum. When students feel comfortable asking questions in class it does indeed allow for greater discussions! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Although i use questioning mostly to orally quiz students on a past lecture, i also tend to use it as stepping stones from one concept to another so sudents can see how individual idea fit together to form a whole. questions from students can be the means of opening up a discussion with the other students trying to provide the answer with indirect input from me.
