Responding to Wrong Answers - Mathematics
As a mathematics instructor, I use questioning often, as a means of assessing student understanding (and my teaching). However, usually their responses are right on point or not. I can struggle with students who are way off track with their responses. I will praise and encourage their attempt, but I can sense a bit of disappointment on their face when I "gently" redirect/rephrase the question. Are there any other math instructors in this class who face a similar challenge?
I teach math and this is exactly. Since your goal is teaching then use this time to correct and reteach.
Hi Justin, Thanks for sharing a great example of engaging students in their own learning! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career

I do not teach Mathematics primarily, but the application of mathematics to machining. When a wrong answer is given, i tend to question how that answer was given and help the student correct it. Working together to find the correct answer builds rapport, and makes the student feel better about themselves.
