Involving all
It is really an art to involve everybodies in the class. Which is not an easy task. But to have a good outcome it is imperative to involve everybody in the class. As an instructor we have to apply all the techniques available to involve all in the class.
Every student is on a different level when classes begin. It is easy as the courses proceed to get everyone on the same level within 2-3 months.
I agree as well...Often my students will get enthusiastic about the topic and become very involved.
Hi Elizabeth, Thanks for sharing an example of questions designed to make students comfortable with questioning.
Susan Polick
I think from day one of class it is essential to have all students involved. I ask a simple question like "what is your favorite food" so that there is no wrong answer and everyone can be involved and that sets the tone for the class and gets everyone involved from day one
It does sometimes take effort to bring students into the conversation. Some students although knowing the answers do not want to participate. It is sometimes an effort to reach all of the students. Some students just do not wish to participate. I find patience often useful as well as praise.
I agree with you Alan, I say break time and they say "man that hour went fast!" I also end my class with asking each student "Tell me one thing you learned today from this class?"
keep everyone involved is hard work. I find that my time management comes into play. When I prepare for each class, I plan on the involvement of the others. keeps it interesting. What my favorite words are is when I say break time and the class say's "already". I feel then I am doing my job.
I agree completely. Hopwever, in order to get everyone involved it takes a lot of time, which usually drags the class behind in schedule.
