Using questions as a measure of ability
This is somewhat invalid due to some students being introverts and not wanting the attention that answering a question will give them. The instructor needs to recognize this issue and takes steps to draw out these students.

I completely agree on the topic of students who are introverts and very intelligent, but not wanting the attention answering a question would give them. I have had instances like this in the classroom, half were introverts, the other half were extroverts. I allowed all of the students to talk about their personality types and it created a bonding experience where the introverts were able to more comfortably express themselves in the classroom moving forward.
