Knowledge test
One of the things we do here in our course is to give the students a knowledge test pretty close to the end of the course...this test pretty much covers everything we have gone over in class and is designed just like a standard ASE style test. It is very benificial to see that usually almost everyone in the class is able to pass this test and really reinforces how far the students have come with their knowledge in the class...I also ask the class how many think they could have passed this test before taking the class and very few if any will ever raise their hands.
During Electrician training classes there is a lot of focus on the National Electrical Code.I beleive most states allow open book exams on this. So I give quizzes and sometimes tests allowing the use of the code book. If they have been understaning the class lectures than they will have the ability to understand the question and know how to find the correct answer.
We use a pre test for a first evaluation of the class knowledge and then after the entire course we give them a post the same as the pre test they took first day of the class so they can see the information they learned they really seem to enjoy this they say I really learned more than ithought I would

I also use this same assessment. I also like to give my students a 5 or 10 question quiz at the end of each day. I will collect the quizzes and review them. I can then assess where each student is and plan my lesson appropriately for the next day. At the beginning of the next class, I give the quizzes back and we go over them and review the answers. These format also gives me more class participation and allows the students to open up more and to become more relaxed in class. I do not grade these quizzes since I just use them to see were each student is and how to bring them along. This has seemed to work quite well in my classroom. This to reinforce my students knowledge and help them with their course exams when they are given.
