Classroom Assessments

Sometimes I think I am a little unorthodox in the way I assess students. I break rules like reviewing a test after it is given. I use this for a learning tool. I do have strict rules about how the test will be reviewed. If the student can prove a answer that I have marked incorrect I will award the points back to the student.

Hi Laura - Welcome to ED 103! Allowing your students to get that post-test feedback is essential as you mention. If they merely get a score they will not know what they got wrong. Best wishes - Susan

I follow the same idea. As an instructor as a culinary school, written exams are not always where their strengths lie. I find that a good, thorough review, allowing them to ask questions or stay after class prior to the exam is a good thing. I then make sure I go over the test when they are handed back and graded, so the students will get the correct answers and hopefully remember them. The correct answers will be retained much better than just seeing their score.

I always give a review (disscusion) the day before a test, also as I go over the lesson power point I will let the student know that this could possibly be a question in a test.

The type of review I find most useful is one that lets students gather the material presented and apply it to the topic (or project) that they are currently engaged in completing.

A strong review is ok but I find a informative discussion involves the students and helps premote a better learning environment for them the divirsity of information in a controlled situation seems to get more information across and leads to better outcomes

I give my students a strong review.Focusing on key points. After the test i will review the answers so they will learn from there mistakes.

I find small quizzes to be a better indicator of progress and knowledge that long text at the end of courses.

reviewing a test after it is given is an excellent idea. Just be sure to get the tests graded and back to the students by the next class period if at all possible.
