Assessment of general educational skills is very important to college classwork because Instructors assume a basic level of abilities and this may not be possible for all students. Students who perform at the lower levels of general education skills should achieve fundamental classes in order to achieve at the higher levels of most curriculums. This can be very problematic if these levels of learning are not addressed because students may differ widely in their learning abilities. If fundamental skills are not met by students the classroom can be very frustrating for such students. They are not able to succeed and keep up with their peers whereas perhaps if those basics were addressed prior to entering skills classes these students would have had a much greater degree of success.
