Student Learning Environment
Creating a positive learning environment provides greater self-esteem in student behavior. It influences how students feel about themselves which, in turn, affects what they learn and how they learn.
I agree, a positive learning environment can encompass many different things such as the instructor starting and ending class on time, handing back graded material in a timely manner, and the instructor being well versed in his/her subject matter
When students can apply what they are learning in class to a physical activity it helps in their understanding and retaining the new information.
Hi Jason, To me, that is the ideal - to be a "facilitator" of learning!

Every new class we end up spending the first hour breaking the ice and making an comfortable enviroment. I take a step back and let the students talk. It lets them know they are the focus, not me.
For many instructors being touch makes the superior (in thier eyes anyway).I find that creating an environment where positive feedback is given booses student self-esteem, which in turn makes then a better learner.
Hi Charolette, Very well stated! There is no question that students respond to their environment and it is up to us to make it as comfortable and professional as possible.
Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
