Learning Styles

It is extremely important to understand the learning styles of your students. This a great tool when imposing different learning tools and techniques in class

Using different learning tools is very important. Now days we have students with diffeent learning styles, as educators we must use different tools for our students to keep up in class, understand, and over all learn. It actually means a lot to them that we take our time to prepare our lesson plans with with learning styles in mind.

Hi Edward, Thanks for your post to the forum. Another way of describing it is "learning preference" which acknowledges that we can all indeed learn in different ways. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

they talk about the four types of learning styles. While I agree it is necessary to find out how each student incorporates new information best, I don't believe that each student learns best in a particular way. I learn a lot from listening and written. Having said that, there is nothing that compares to actual hands on practice of skills. I think all styles need to be incorporated because we all learn from a variety of ways.

There is a higher chance of success if we teach to the different learning styles. Students have a better chance to succeed.

I always use different types of learning skills. I give differnt types of tests. This keeps it interesting and it tells me what the students are absorbing. They usually groan when they see an essay test and they do not like fill-in the blanks. You will have students who are prepared for any type of test.

A learning style quiz would enable students go forth with new knowledge of what to look out for
in new learning environments, hence more success.

As part of my class introduction I briefly discuss the various learning styles. I then ask the class which style best suits them and get a response from each student. This allows for a targeted delivery on my part.

Hi Grant,
Here is a link to an inventory that I have used many times:

Do you recommend a learning style quiz for career students?

Knowing your students learning styles gives you and your students a better chance at success as it allows you to know what is helpful to them but you can expand their knowledge and stretch their comfortzones. You do this by going outside their preferred learning styles and chanllenging them.

This is a great way to deliver material needed for the course. I think it also makes the class more interesting and easier when using all learning styles to get information across.

Role playing seems to be a way of learning that all learning styles seem to enjoy so I tend to utilize this method regulary

I agree. Using a variety of teaching techniques that incorporate as many learning styles as possible motivates all the learners and it keeps the class more interesting!

I agree this is a great tool. I give a learning style quiz so I can know how each student absorbs information and so the students know how they should study to better absorb the info as well.

I agree! I also try to understand the different learning styles of my students.

I couldn't agree more ! I try to reach every learning by using different learning style techniques
