Evaluating the teacher

I can't imagine a more effective self evaluation technique than summative tests given to the students. I think it measures teaching technique even more than student progress.

I am constantly monitoring and assessing my teaching skills to see if I am being effective. I do this during and at the end of each lecture or drafting activity. The questioning during the lecture helps me see if students understand what I am saying or presenting to them. The later drawing assignment shows me if they can apply what was learned in the lecture. I start every new day with a re-cap of the previous days information to see if they remember a day later. Some do, most don't. With drafting, it's all about repetition.

Hi Bob, Yes, tests can provide us with lots of information but only if we take the time to analyze results and revise our instruction accordingly. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

If you take a pulse of tests as well as the most missed questions you can address which materiel you as an instructor need to cover better

Summative tests allow instructors to self evaluate their course material.

I have to agree with Kenneth. The summative test will reflect how effective our teaching techniques have been. We can monitor what was learned and what was not and modify our presentation.

Hi Kenneth, Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree and believe that this is why we must carefully evaluate the information we receive these assessments.
