Creative effective assesments
In my test, I do take questions from the question bank. Questions are selected on the basis of what, I have taught in the class. I like to include multiple choice questions, True and false questions and short essay type questions, so that all the students do well in my exam.
As a math teacher, I would like to give my students a test with problems where they can show all their work (step by step).
Previously, I used in one of the in class quizzes a multiple choice method and I don't think it works perfectly for math courses!
Hi Joseph - I think it's terrific that you give your students some test-taking tips as I agree that there are students who just "freeze" when taking tests. Best wishes- Susan
I also let the students know what type of question format is on the test they are taking.I take it one step futher, after watching good students do poorly on tests,I give them advice on taking tests in general. Example , I tell them after reading the question thoroughly choose an answer and don't change it, so many students have the correct answer and then change it to an incorrect one.
When reviwing what is going to be on a exam is it best to let the students know what formats are going to be on the test?
I like doing essays and scan tron quiz's they have a clear aspect of what has been learned.
