Testing
The outline of the complete range of tests was informative because it was totally comprehensive and defined the boundries of types with contributions achievable that are available; it also objectively listed the chartacteristics and strengths of each.
Using different types of questions is good if you don't over do it. Some students have a hard time switching from one type question to another. You might end up testing for fatigue rather than content.
Hi Bryan - Welcome to ED 103! I agree with you that the optimum is a test that combines different types of assessments. the module is meant to explore the different types of assessments and how they relate to different types of learning as well as various subject matter. Best Wishes! Susan
Absolutely. I was surprised, though, that the module did not stress tests with several combined testing types. I have found that some students feel they are simply incapable of certain types of questions (short-answer is the most common problem type), but they will at least attempt on other types (multiple-choice is usually the favorite). Put differently, using many different testing types on the same exam lets you reach out to multiple learning styles and confidence levels, while also preventing monotony and disenchantment to whatever extent possible.
