Variety of Assessment Options

I agree that it is vital that we assess students in a variety of ways to ensure that we are offering students many opportunities to show us their knowledge base.

I agree. In teaching art history, a variety of testing methods are certainly the best. I use: short anser, essay, fill in the blank, multipule choice, matching etc.

Variety is definitely the key. Even starting with factual based questioning towards the beginning of a section, then building to a more critical thinking/skill application based assessment is an easy way to ensure that variety.

Hi Michelle- Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree completely and this is why allowing students to coast along to graduation when they are not really learning does them a diservice and also destroys relationaships with potential employers. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Not only knowledge base, but the ability to walk out of the facility and be able to survive in the work world with minimal instruction. Employers aren't wanting to spend the time to train new staff, they are relying on us to send out employees that need little hand holding and are eager to start the work day.
